Cancelling Your Policy

Can I cancel my policy?

If you wish to cancel your policy there is a 14 day cooling off period during which the cover can be cancelled with a full refund. After this period you may cancel the insurance by giving us 30 days notice in writing of your intention to cancel.

Beyond the 14 day cooling off period cancellation terms differ between insurers and also types of insurance. Some insurers may be willing to return a pro-rata premium up to 6 months after the policy began but after this period no refund will be given.

We aim to make refunds as quickly as possible but it can take up to 60 days to complete the process.

Is my past work still covered after I cancel my policy?

No, it's not. Professional indemnity cover is usually offered on a claims-made basis and this means that your insurer will only cover you for claims that are brought against you DURING the term of your policy.

If a claim is made against you after your policy has expired – even if the incident occurred while your policy was in place – you will not be covered for that claim. For example, if an incident occurred in 2014 when you had professional indemnity cover, but the client brings a claim against you in 2015 – after your policy has expired – you will not be insured for that claim.

Therefore a valid policy must always be in force for a claim to be met by an insurer.

How do I cancel my policy?

You can cancel your policy by logging into your account and requesting cancellation. You would have set up login details when you purchased your policy and these can also be found with your cover confirmation documents.

Any return of premium due will be credited back to the credit or debit card with which your purchased the insurance.
