Solicitors Indemnity Insurance under scrutiny in High Court
The way the legal profession is insured will be examined in the High Court this year in a major test case that could have implications for how all firms obtain indemnity cover.
The £60m High Court battle is scheduled for 20 days during the Michaelmas term with Fountain Court and Devereux Chambers both fielding silks for the defendants.
The case is being pursued by Shakespeares partner Alan Sinnett, who is instructed for Godiva Mortgages in its claim against Travelers Insurance and RSA. It is believed to be the largest aggregation dispute concerning solicitors’ professional indemnity insurance (PII) and mortgage fraud to come before the courts.
